Quick update, folks: I broke my writing arm a few days ago, so there might be more posts this month, as I can't draw or such but I can still read so I guess that's what l'll be doing most of, but there might be less blog posts, because it's harder to type now my arm is in a cast :( , so I might only post once or twice, or I might post a lot more than I usually do.
Anyway, moving on to this book: it was absolutely fantastic! The plot had so many twists and turns, and the end was sooo annoying (only because it left me desperate to read the second book; I'll have to get hold of it somehow). I found it really funny too, especially because Apollo is so terrible at being human... I love Greek mythology, and this book was so exciting and interesting... I would definitely recommend this book for adventure/greek mythology fantasy lovers! How do you punish a god? By making him human. As a punishment for the god Apollo, Zeus turns him into a human. Lost in the human world without his godly powers, he has to find a way to be admitted into the Olympus again. But some people don't wan't him to succeed, and Apollo can think of only one place to go: Camp Half-Blood, a camp for modern demigods.

Ok, so you've probably already heard of this series, Enid Blyton is really famous, but if you haven't, here is a post about it. Personally, I love Enid Blyton, and I have read most of her books, so I can assure that in my opinion she is a great author. The Famous Five is probably her most well-known series, and the books are so funny, interesting and imaginative that I'm not surprised I love them so much. She is probably one of my favourite authors and her books are really entertaining! They are rather short (for me, at least), but if you are about 9+ and like reading, then these are great books for you!! Classic but full of adventure, these books were great fun to read, and I think you should give them a go!
The Famous Five are 4 children: Julian, Dick, George (short for Georgina) and Anne. And of course, their dog Timothy!! During the holidays, when everything seems calm and peaceful, an adventure turns up and they're off!! I loved this Cat Royal book too. It was really cool, and I did learn a lot of sailor slang! Cat gets into soo many scrapes here as well, but she always manages to get out of them too so... I'm not complaining! Plus it's the problems that really get me into the book, they make sound realistic and fun! Anyway, I've tried not to include any spoilers in this review because l know that many people don't like spoilers. And I hope you enjoy this book too!
As you well remember, Syd went on a boxing tour just before Cat left for Paris in book 3, Den of Thieves. Cat is spending time with Frank and his family when she receives a letter from Syd's mother telling her that Syd has not come home. So Cat starts looking for Syd, and on her journey she meets a lot of sailors, a tribe of Indians and a friend who has grown rather fat (I dare not spoil this part, but... I desperately want to!).She also acquires a curious souvenir that she carries on her shoulder... So prepare yourself for Cat's fourth adventure! The third book in the Cat Royal series, this book made me want to read the next one immediately. I love Cat's stories, although I'd rather live my life than hers, to tell you the truth. My life may not be too exciting, but I still want some fun in it! This time, I found the fun in this book. Julia Golding made her book so curious, my head almost exploded with all the different outcome possibilities. I really enjoyed this book and hope you do too.
Drury Lane is closing. Now Cat has no home to go to and has to find her own way to live. but life in london streets is harder that Cat imagined, despite having lived in London all her life. When Cat gets an opportunity to go to Paris, she accepts and suddenly she finds herself on French territory, with a lot more trouble than she could imagine... An awesome sequel to the diamond of Drury Lane, the plot was original, well written and very interesting. Cat Royal thrills me and makes me feel like I'm living the adventure with her, not just reading it secretly at night under the bedcovers. I liked this book so much I imediately bought the third book, Den of Thieves, which I am now reading and will post when I have time to finsh the book and review it. All I can say was that it is was extremely interesting and full of adventure, like all former cat Royal books. I hope you will like this book too.
Cat Royal has some problems. Her friend Pedro, a former African slave with a musical talent, is being claimed by his old master, Mr Hawkings. Cat will do anything to save Pedro from the jaws of this evil man, even if it means consorting with Billy Shepherd and disguising as a boy... I quite liked this book. It was fun to read, with an interesting, lively plot full of action. For Year 7's and up, it would be a great story. I think it was set during King George's reign, but, truth be told, I can't be sure. I liked the way it was told in 1st person, it kind of made me empathize more with Catherine, the main character in this story. And the end was quite surprising, considering the beginning of the story. It all turned out the opposite of what I thought. Some parts I did guess, but overall it was quite mysterious and exciting. I'd highly recommend it to Year 7's and above. Personally, I think it would be a great read for them, just as it was for me. And it did teach me more about life during that period, especially focusing on the diference in the life of a young theatre girl and the children of a Duke.
Catherine Royal lives in the theatre. She has no parents and was found on the steps of the theatre as a baby. Then the new prompt, Johnny, appears, and so does Pedro, a talented young african violinist. Then Catherine meets Lord Francis and Lady Elizabeth, the Duke of Avon's children, and has a few unpleasant encounters with Billy Shepherd... And then her life changes quite unexpectedly... I really, really, really liked this book. It was very interesting, with some easy-to-love characters, a despicable sorcerer, a hunt for a blue egg and awesome Magyk! And, what's best: its only the first in a series of 3!
Tod lives with her father, Dan Moon, and her step-aunt, Mitza Draddenmora Draa, in the peaceful fishing Pathfinder village. All of a sudden, her father disappears and her village burns down. With no home or family left, Tod goes to the fabled Wizard Tower, following the instructions of her late mother. There, she discoveres she has a talent for Magyk and meets many new friends, including the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, the Chief Hermetic scribe, the Castle Queen and Doctor Draa. But an evil sorcerer is trying to steal the Egg of Orm, a giant gold worm which produces an endless supply of lapis lazuli, the key to powerful magyk. So Tod and her friends must strive to protect the Orm, before a mad wizard becomes too powerful to beat... I spent a lot of time deciding whether I should read this book or not. I dont know why. Maybe the blurb didn't convince me enough. Finally, I read it. I shouldnt have doubted my better judgement, which was telling me to read it. I loved it. It had an amazing, mysterious plot and some very original characters. It left me in suspense, for this is the first book in a series of three by Django Wexler. I'm sure The Mad Apprentice, the second book, will amuse me just as much!
Alice is in her house when suddenly she hears her father arguing in the kitchen with a fairy. Four days later, her father is dead. Orphaned Alice is left to live with her creepy uncle, Geryon, whose library hides more secrets and dangers that any other. Alice suddenly finds herself trapped in a book, where the only way out is defeating the creatures within... With the help of Isaac and a cat, she will be lead into the dangers of the Reader's World... A smart, funny book, this book will captivate your attention the minute you finish the first page. Suitable for ages 7-12, I would recommend it because it really made me want to go to the Amazon Rainforest, and also because the way it is written makes this book unforgettable.
When Maia is sent to live with the Carters, who were relations of hers, she thought they would be kind and take her in wilfully. But it is not long before she realises the real reason they took her in so readily. How can she cope? Then she meets Clovis, a poor actor, and Finn, who is half Indian, and is carried away on a trip through the Amazon, accompanied by Miss Minton, her governess... |
